Chas Kok
Coach K has been in education for ten years. He is in his 2nd year as the AD at Blaine. He began his teaching career teaching Middle Level Mathematics at Bayview Elementary in Burlington, Washington. He served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Burlington-Edison High School for five years and was an Assistant Football Coach for three. He also coached collegiately at Thompson Rivers University for two years before moving back to the USA.
What drew you to becoming an athletic director?
- "I wanted to serve more young people than I was as a teacher and coach. While I loved doing both, I want to spread thoughtful character teaching through coaching and an AD role was the best way to do that. I also think that when my Dad served on the LYS board and would constantly come to me for questions and guidance, I enjoyed the process of how to make something better in a macro-sense."
What coaching philosophy or approach do you bring to your athletes?
- "I think one of my strengths is remaining neutral in good and bad situations. While we all have ups and downs in our lives, I try to remain constant in how I'm feeling so that those around me know my demeanor and that they can come to me about anything without feeling afraid to."
Can you share a memorable coaching moment or success story?
- "Going to state my 1st year at Burlington-Edison was a pretty neat experience. The program was struggling so to go that first year and get through the district tournament was really fun."
