1. What drew you to coaching in your particular sport?
- I have been involved with volleyball since I was 8 years old. I played at Whatcom Community College for 2 years and once it was over, I couldn't just step away. I had the opportunity to coach a boys and girls club team in 2017, and loved it. That drew me to my love of coaching. I have been coaching for 8 years, 1 year of 5th grade, 3 years middle school, 4 years high school C team, and this will be my first year as a varsity head coach. Being someone who grew up in Blaine sports, I was taught a lot of valuable life skills that made me thrive in the world and who I am today. Coaching gives me the opportunity to teach those skills and be a positive influence to my community.
2. What coaching philosophy or approach do you bring to your athletes?
- My coaching philosophy aims to be better than yesterday. If we make improvements every single day, then we know we are heading in the right direction. Volleyball is a game that is won on mistakes. If we dwell on the negatives, we will never get anywhere. If we focus on what we can improve on, and how we can teach life lessons to athletes every day, the more positive outcomes we will have. My approach to coaching is simple. Be disciplined and work hard. With those two things, we get to enjoy what we are doing.
