The Blaine Borderites Cross Country teams will compete at the District 1A Championships on Friday at the Deming Log Show Grounds. The top seven boys and top seven girls, as well as the top overall team, will qualify for the state meet next weekend in Pasco, WA.
The day begins with the JV Boys and Girls races at 1:30 p.m., followed by the 1A Boys race at 2:15 p.m. and the 1A Girls race at 2:45 p.m. Awards will take place immediately following the conclusion of the final race.
On the boys side, Emmanuel Rios-Martinez leads Blaine with a personal best of 17:23.7 in the 5,000-meter race. Steven Phelps-McDonald comes in with a time of 18:39.8, and Verdaan Aujla has posted a season-best 19:16.5.
For the girls, Carrie Balback leads the Borderites with a time of 21:50.9, followed by Zoe Hill at 24:30.0, and Kathleen McLean at 26:41.0.
Blaine looks to finish strong as they aim for individual and team qualifications for the state championships.
