For the second time in a week, the Blaine Borderites boys soccer team came out on top against Lynden Christian, earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory in a postseason showdown.
Dima Yuryev was once again the difference-maker, netting both goals for the Borderites. But it was the defense that sealed the win.
Abel Carlson-Vega and the Blaine back line stepped up in a big way during the final stretch. With Lynden Christian pressing hard for a late equalizer, the Borderites stayed organized and disciplined, turning away multiple chances and keeping the Lyncs off the board in the closing minutes.
The victory sends Blaine into the bi-district playoffs, where they’ll face Bush High School on Saturday at 7 p.m. at King's High School. The winner qualifies for the state tournament.
